TERRAE

TERRA I

Terra is a Latin term, originally used to indicate planet Earth. Its plural, Terrae, is used in astronomy to indicate land masses found on various outer space bodies.
TERRAE is a research project that combines computational techniques and artificial intelligence, to create animated sequences of morphing, proto-geological patterns, as if they were perceived from an outer space perspective.
Compressing millennial geological change in a few seconds, this prototype is informed by a reflection on the nature of change, its varying speed, the limitation of human experience to a certain scale of time, and the expressive potential of a situation where these magnitudes were radically different.

TERRAE investigates the uncertainty arising from encountering a system that projects patterns resembling a form of language. Observers are left unsure about the nature of this communication, as well as the possibility of decrypting it.
TERRAE is currently composed by a high-resolution video, and a limited edition of large format prints.
